David Trezeguet struck twice as Argentine giants River Plate beat Almirante Brown 2-0 on Saturday to win the Primera B Nacional title and return to the first division.
River Plate has won the Argentine first-division title a record 33 times but was relegated a year ago, sparking riots in Buenos Aires by angry fans.
River’s promotion means the derby against Boca Juniors – one of world football’s most famous rivalries – will resume next season.
“This is unforgettable. In less than a year we put River back where they belong,” – River Plate coach Matias Almeyda.
